Angenieux 35-140mm Zoom Lens, PL mt.- Red, Arri, AATON

Angenieux 35-140mm zoom lens, pl mt. Angenieux 35-140mm zoom lens, arri standard mount with pl adapter. I don’t know where i came up with this lens. It was probably included with some surplus equipment that i bought a long while ago.
It was sitting on my shelf of older lenses and when i saw an ad for one (in better shape, at least cosmetically) for several thousand dollars. Look, and here it is. This is not a lens that i would bring out in front of a client. Unless that client was a producer worried about losing the lens on a shot where it is put in harms way… Well, i didn’t pay a lot for it and suddenly, with a great shot, you are a hero.

That being said, this is a pretty cool little lens, small and light for wild and crazy hand held work. But it kind of stops there as in our profession it seems that you often have to have the best looking gear. This lens, all thing considered, is nice.

It is pretty sharp as far as i can tell putting it up on a camera and looking thru the viewfinder. I have not shot anything with it, clean when looking down into the lens and holds focus through the zoom.
The iris blades are clean and no oil showing. There is no separation, fungus, interior scratches, blotches, hazing, etc… The zoom tracking is a little off (really not much). I have no idea what it is worth…

Who knows, maybe it would add some credibility in a period piece. Someone on cml a few months ago asked if any lenses were available without the normal coatings for a period shoot coming up. This lens is coated (the older mgfl blue/redish coating). The front and rear elements are fairly clean, with only (a lot of) very fine cleaning marks (not glass scratches).

Thus there will probably be slightly more than normal flare in the images. But these are very fine marks, and you have to use a bright light to see them. The interior elements are clean as i said above. This is a well worn lens. The paint is worn off on a lot of the lens, and the annodizing is also worn (actually faded), but there are no dents or deep scratches, just dings here and there. Again, don’t show this to a high paying client. The zoom motion is fairly smooth, with a little bump at one end. Needs a bit of lubrication i expect. The iris and focus are very smooth.

This lens will fit the red one camera and other digital pl mount cameras as well as arri 35-iii, 2-c. It will not fit on an arri 435 or 235. (with a different adapter it would fit).

The adapter is not the korean version. Rather a precision stainless steel adapter that was machined on a cnc mill to +or-. 001 tolerance, and with set screws that go into and press on the mount groove. Flange focus depth it is absolutely right on. My take on this lens. It could be a lens that gets that amazing shot where the shot is worth more than the lens i know. Or it could be one for a “look” that is better, or more authentic than doing it in post. Www dot velocity dot tv. To anywhere in the lower us.

This protects both of us.
